She headed onstage, and got a thundering reception from the crowd. The hometown girls took turns onstage, and then the Youth Corps got organized, and marched out for their songs. I turned to look at the monitor, and saw that after a couple of songs, I saw a ship carrying the Horns of a Dilemma come in, and they marched off, swinging their horns. They did several songs, and the leader of the Horns came up to speak with Topper. He seemed to be trying to convince Topper of something, but I was nearly sure it was all an act, and they had arranged it beforehand. Finally, Topper nodded, and he went back to the Horns. He made a hand sign, and they all nodded. Then the whole lot of them cut down on ‘Rawhide’. The crowd seemed to be as surprised as I was, but it didn’t take long for them to get into it. After that, they cut down on ‘Come Sail Away’, and sure enough, at the right point in the song, the Horns climbed aboard their starship, and headed for the skies. The green room gave us some sound insulation, but the roar of the crowd was still impressive. The Youth Corps choir did a few more songs, and then they filed offstage, and came back to the green room. The band rolled through ‘Mr. Roboto’, and a few other songs, and once again closed with ‘Go Go Godzilla’. Apparently, the crowd had a sense of humor, because there was once again thunderous applause. One of the Youth Corps told me I needed to head to the stage, and I did. Yes, I remembered to turn my grav boots back on. I made it to the mic, and Topper said, “And here, to close out the show, is our Boss, Admiral Wilson!”

I said, “Thank you, Captain Topper. I hope that all of you enjoyed this show as much as we enjoyed putting it on for you. Be careful leaving the stadium, there are a lot of folks here today.” I waved, and started to leave the stage. Topper and the band filed off behind me. The applause was amazing. When we made it to the green room, I said, “I can see why you like doing this, Topper. A person could get used to all that applause.”

“They did seem to like it, didn’t they? Do you think this will make us even with the Japanese government?”

“I have no idea. I have to think it will help their outlook, but I could be entirely wrong.”

My comm rang, and Topper said, “I think we might be about to find out.”

I looked, and sure enough, it was the Ambassador I had talked with earlier. “Mr. Ambassador! So nice to hear from you. Was that more what you wanted, in terms of a concert?”

“It certainly was. My government has instructed me to offer you an invitation to come back whenever you like.”

“I’m afraid that will be up to Captain Topper. I don’t have any input on the band’s scheduling.
